Dania Sheldon

I hold a doctorate in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and have 25+ years of experience editing a diverse variety of materials in numerous genres. I am eclectic in my interests and comfortable with a very wide range of subjects in the humanities and sciences. In addition to non-fiction projects, I enjoy working on fiction for adults, young adults, and children.

In 2017, I received the Tom Fairley Award, which recognizes Canada’s top editor and the recipient’s contribution to a work published in Canada, in my case, the critically acclaimed book Charles Gretton: Clock and Watchmaking Through the Golden Age.

I was invited in 2021 to become the language editor for eScience, an international journal publishing peer-reviewed science and technology research in interdisciplinary fields related to chemistry, energy, electrochemistry, electronics, engineering, and the environment.

I have also been an active member of Editors Canada since 2005, serving on provincial and national executives and co-developing exams in all four subject areas of the professional certification program. In 2020, I joined the organization’s roster of webinar presenters, and I have been a judge for the Tom Fairley Award twice since receiving that honour.

I offer a complete range of editing services, including book indexing. As a writer, I provide creative non-fiction, plain-language writing/rewriting, government and business materials, policies, advertising copy, coaching, and ghost writing. I also have numerous years of experience in copyright and permissions research and licensing negotiations. 

My 2018 The Book of Lua: Stories and Wisdom from a Little Cat with Mobility Challenges was a finalist in two categories of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. I have also co-authored three books with award-winning writer Daniel Friedmann.
