ACES partners with the Editors’ Association of Canada to expand member opportunities

New international partnership to enhance training opportunities and resources for copy editors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Toronto, May 20, 2014—The American Copy Editors Society (ACES) and the Editors’ Association of Canada (EAC) have formed an alliance to offer the members of each organization additional opportunities for training and professional development. The partnership will also give members access to each organization’s national organized events at a discounted member rate, including the upcoming EAC annual conference, June 6-8, in Toronto.

“EAC is excited to expand our members’ networking and professional development opportunities in partnering with ACES,” said Carolyn L Burke, executive director of EAC. EAC promotes professional editing as key in producing effective communication and helps maintain high editing and publishing standards in Canada, with 1,500 members working in the corporate, technical, government, non-profit and publishing sectors. “Learning side-by-side with ACES members online and in person will advance career opportunities for members of both organizations.”

“ACES continues to extend its reach internationally by offering our members access to critical resources needed to develop their professional skills and network,” said Teresa Schmedding, ACES president and deputy managing editor of digital operations at the Daily Herald. “We are proud to partner with such a strong international communications organization as EAC and look forward to the work we can do together for each other and the industry.”

EAC’s annual conference will take place June 6-8 at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute in downtown Toronto, and ACES members are invited to attend at the EAC discounted member rate. This year’s EAC conference theme, “Tracking Change: e-Merging Methods and Markets,” will explore the changing face of editing and what it means for editors and their work. ACES will hold an in-depth “Editing Boot Camp” workshop to help editors polish their skills on August 5, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Le Centre Sheraton Hotel in Montreal, and EAC members are invited to attend at the ACES discounted member rate.
