Editors’ Association of Canada names Patrick Banville new executive director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Toronto, June 10, 2015—The Editors’ Association of Canada (EAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Banville to the position of executive director, effective June 15.

Banville, a fluently bilingual not-for-profit executive originally from Montreal, will work with volunteers from across the country and with association staff to achieve EAC’s mission to develop and promote professional editorial standards, increase awareness of the value of editing, and provide products and services to editors throughout their careers.

“We’re thrilled Patrick is joining our team,” says interim president Moira White. “His experience, passion and drive will help to further the association in our work to promote editors and the editing profession.”

Banville began his career in the media industry, where he worked for TFO and the CBC. He also worked for federal and provincial funding and development agencies. He has produced documentaries and has started up several independent television production companies. He recently transitioned into the charitable sector where he was the chief operating officer at a major public foundation.

“EAC is a remarkable organization known for shaping professional editing in Canada,” says Banville. “I’m looking forward to bringing together the many aspects of my leadership and management experience in this role, and to continuing the incredible work the association is doing on behalf of Canadian editors.”

Banville is a graduate of Glendon College, York University, with an (Hon) BA, where he also received a Certificate of Bilingual Excellence. He studied journalism at Ryerson University and holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University.
