Are you exploring editing as a career? Wondering how to break in, specialize or grow as a working editor? Join us for Editors Canada’s first-ever virtual speed mentoring event on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET. This event will be held via Zoom. 

Each attendee will have conversations with three experienced editors working across various fields. Learn about publishing, editorial styles, running a business and more. This is your chance to get practical insight from professional experts.

This event is free for Editors Canada members and $10 for non-members.

Virginia St-Denis

Virginia is a publishing professional with more than 30 years of experience in writing, editing, desktop publishing, and managing online and print publications. She helps organizations gather and package information into useful and engaging content, which keeps their target audiences coming back for more. Virginia is a member of Editors Canada, Plain Canada Clair, and the Plain Language Association International, as well as a non-Indigenous member of the Indigenous Editors Association.

Anne Louise Mahoney

Anne Louise Mahoney is a Certified Professional Editor and long-time Editors Canada member based in Ottawa, home of the Anishinaabe Algonquin people. She is a seasoned freelance copy editor and proofreader who enjoys working with clients to bring their writing to the world. Areas of expertise include non-fiction books, academic articles, theology and spirituality texts, English translations of French texts (including AI translations), and project management. Eric Hubler

Eric is a Canadian expat who was a student journalist at Brown University and had feature reporting internships at The Boston Globe and The Washington Post. His first stint on a copy desk was at The Japan Economic Journal in Tokyo, and he later served on the AP’s Gulf War Desk and as a staff reporter at The Denver Post. After earning a master’s in nonprofit management, he began long-form editing at an education consultancy and now edits independent authors of virtually any nonfiction genre, including memoir, self-help, travel, management, and health.

Katherine Morton 

I’ve been editing for more than 30 years and began freelancing five years ago. I completed the Simon Fraser University Editing Certificate Program, I’m an Editors Canada certified copy editor, and I’m a Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading Advanced Professional Member. I also have a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. Learn more about the John Eerkes-Medrano Mentorship Program

The John Eerkes-Medrano Mentorship Program offers editors the opportunity to participate in one-on-one mentoring relationships. Connecting with an experienced, established editor can help you better navigate your editing niche and help you learn more about the industry at large. Mentorship is a great way to find your way into a specific area of editing or into the larger world of editing in general. 

Mentorship is currently available exclusively to Editors Canada members and student affiliates. 

Our mentoring program is aimed at all levels of editors, including the following:

  • editors who are new to the profession
  • editors who want to brush up on their skills
  • editors who want to move into a new area of editing
  • editors who are returning to the profession after time away

Editors Canada members can fill out the Mentee Application Form or email info@editors.ca with the subject line “Interested in Mentorship” for more information. If you’re not an Editors Canada member, you can learn more about our membership benefits on the Editors Canada website.
