Profile
I help indie authors and small presses by providing editing and creative services, including manuscript evaluation, developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, and publishing assistance.
Writing can be a difficult and vulnerable experience. It’s my job to help you take your manuscript to the next level so that you can self-publish or submit to an agent or publisher with confidence.
As a multipotentialite, I have a lot of interests and I enjoy reading across genres and subjects, but I’m especially interested in working on speculative literature (science-fiction and fantasy), contemporary fiction, and illustrated works.
Since becoming a freelance editor in 2017, I’ve worked on middle-grade math adventures, dinosaur picture books, coming of age YA novels, time travel narratives, and a host of character-driven stories. Several of these books have gone on to be featured in recommended reading lists from Quill & Quire or CBC Books, and some have even been nominated for or won awards!
In 2024, I edited The City We Chose (TO Comix), a comic anthology about living in cities, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter.
Not sure if your work fits my interests? Just ask! I love hearing from writers and will always try to refer you to someone else if I’m not the right fit.

What my clients have to say:
“Through her initial comments, I could see her competence and desire to help me improve my manuscript… She provided me with a detailed manuscript analysis that will help me improve my work. Her comments have been worth every penny” – Joy Blake
“Emily is a true professional. Her editing skills are superior; her ability to communicate effectively with clients is excellent; and her organizational skills are superb. She delivers completed tasks on time and to requirements. She is a pleasure to work with.” – Kirsten Marion, Common Deer Press
“Her skills with the English language and insights into story telling were huge assets to polishing the story I wanted to tell. She was professional, up front, and clear about her process and what I could expect as a final result. Her feedback was very detailed yet not overwhelming, and it was helpful to both the story and me going forward as a writer.” – Stephanie M. Matthews
