- Mingle with experienced industry professionals
Everyone should meet their heroes! That’s the saying, right? We certainly think so. Whether it’s cheering for them at the awards banquet, chatting over coffee or going to their sessions, you won’t want to miss your chance to connect.
- Deepen your knowledge of new tools, skills and strategies
The conference session schedule is packed with timely and essential discussions specifically chosen for their potential to sharpen your skills and help you blaze your career trail. The sessions will explore a wide range of topics including:
- Intent Matters: Misinformation, Disinformation, and Indigenous Representation in Editing, led by Kaitlin Littlechild. Participants will gain practical tools to better assess intent, support authentic Indigenous representation and respond thoughtfully to harmful practices in editorial contexts.
- Public Health in the Age of Misinformation, led by Christine LeBlanc. This session will explore misinformation in the current health environment with examples, present some practical tips and share some resources that can help.
- Working Globally: What Every Editor Needs to Know About International Clients, led by Erin Brenner. Three editors with extensive international experience will share what they wish they’d known before taking on their first global client.
- Our Changing Language through the Decades: Keeping Up with our Ever-evolving Words and Phrases, led by Rob Williams. This session will present a pointed look at how language keeps evolving, in good and bad directions, and what we can do to keep on top of it as professional editors and proofreaders.
- How Canadian Editors are Navigating AI Adoption while Protecting Editorial Credibility, led by Jessica Patterson and Terra Tailleur. Co-authors Patterson and Tailleur will present the findings of their research examining AI integration across 12 Canadian news organizations.

- Make new friends and connections with Conference Buddies
Are you attending your first Editors Canada conference? Are you a new member who wants to meet others? Are you attending alone? Sign up for Conference Buddies! Select the Conference Buddies option at registration and we’ll put you in a group that meets at the beginning of the day, at breaks and lunches and at social events–timing and frequency are up to the group. Conference Buddies is a great way to make your conference experience more valuable, whether you meet a new friend, a new professional connection or maybe just someone who’s better at reading maps than you are.
- Experience the famous hospitality of the Maritimes
Our conference is in the heart of downtown Halifax this year and we hope you’ll take every chance you get to experience the city to the fullest. If you and your conference buddies are looking for a quick wander between speaker sessions, the Halifax Public Gardens are just a hop, skip, and a jump from the conference venue and will be bursting into bloom! Explore a bit further and you’ll find Citadel Hill, the Halifax Waterfront, and Point Pleasant Park, all of which offer stunning ocean views. Want to keep the energy going after sessions finish for the day? Stroll down Barrington Street and you’ll more often than not find great live music as well as bars, restaurants and excellent shops.
- Applaud community achievements at the awards banquet
It’s time to kick back and celebrate our colleagues’ hard work! This year, the awards banquet is included in your conference registration. Join us as we put our hands together to recognize excellence, creativity and dedication in the editing field. There’s nothing quite like clapping and hollering for our award winners over good food and drinks, especially since we’re so rarely all in the same room. Take advantage of this once-a-year gathering of editors from across the country and help us recognize and support the editors who make us proud!
- Get personalized advice about your career goals
That’s right, our famous speed mentoring sessions are returning for another year! Looking for a career shift but not sure how to make the jump? Need advice about how to expand your business and market yourself effectively? Mid-career editors looking for experienced professional insight should take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge available over the conference’s two mentoring sessions. Two heads are better than one, so bring your career concerns and questions and get ready to brainstorm with an experienced mentor.
- Check out souvenirs and gifts at the vendor tables
Editors26 will indeed include a vendor fair. Visiting and local attendees alike can fill their boots with everything from candles to books to locally sourced foodstuffs. Whether it’s home goods, treats or tchotchkes, you’ll want to save some space in your suitcase for these souvenirs. Art and stationery, clothing and books; we’ve got it all! Don’t forget to take a look at the Editors26 conference merch to properly commemorate your visit.

Conference theme: Editing in the Age of Misinformation
Misinformation isn’t just about fake news; it’s also the assumptions we make, the language we let slide and the identities we misrepresent. Editors are uniquely positioned to catch what others miss and to create more truthful, inclusive and responsible content. This year, we encourage attendees to open their ears, eyes and minds—using their love of accuracy and clear communication—to take their skills and responsibilities to the next level.
