Toronto, May 16, 2011—The Editors’ Association of Canada (EAC) is pleased to announce that four more editors have received the designation of Certified Professional Editor (CPE). EAC has awarded almost 150 certification credentials since launching its landmark certification program in 2006.
“With each test setting, we are very proud to see the number of certified editors continue to increase,” says EAC president Michelle Boulton. “Clearly, Canadian editors recognize the value of meeting standards for excellence in our profession, but we are also seeing an increasing number of employers requesting, or even requiring EAC certification.”
The new Certified Professional Editors are:

Sherry Hinman (Whitby, ON)
Jeanne McKane (Toronto, ON)

EAC developed its certification program to promote and maintain high professional standards of editing, to help editors develop professionally and to enhance the status of editing as a profession in Canada. Each year an increasing number of people register to take the tests. As recognition of EAC certification continues to grow, so too does the benefit to businesses, governments, organizations and individuals looking for editors with high levels of knowledge, experience and skills.
EAC’s 2011 Certification Tests
Registration for the 2011 certification tests opens in July. The Copy Editing and Stylistic Editing tests will be written on Saturday, November 19, 2011, in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax (demand and resources permitting). The Proofreading and Structural Editing tests will be offered in 2012.
