Toronto, October 13, 2016—The Editors’ Association of Canada (Editors Canada) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Yip-Chuck to the position of executive director, effective October 17.
Yip-Chuck is a senior business administrator with over 20 years’ experience in the publishing industry in Canada as a writer, editor, program manager, managing editor and publisher. He began his career in publishing as an editor at the legal publishing house CCH Canadian, transitioned into educational publishing working for Pearson Education, and eventually became the science publisher at Nelson Education, where he was responsible for publishing K-12 science learning resources across Canada. He also has extensive experience in strategic planning, new business development, writing business plans and proposals, market research, customer satisfaction, and product implementation and support.
“We’re so pleased John is bringing his impressive skills and experience to Editors Canada,” says president Anne Louise Mahoney. “We look forward to working with him to implement the association’s new strategic plan and to build on the good work we have been doing on behalf of Canadian editors.”
“It is my personal objective to help Editors Canada members acquire more work, to get paid more, and to have clients and employers appreciate their efforts even more than they currently do,” says Yip-Chuck. “I look forward to serving the association.”
Yip-Chuck is a graduate of the Ryerson University Publishing Program where he was the recipient of the Marsh Jeanneret Memorial Award for Publishing. He also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. He is a single father, an avid sports fan and a confessed current affairs junkie. When not lurking on Twitter, he can be found in the stands cheering on Toronto FC, the Raptors and the Blue Jays.

Editors Canada began in 1979 as the Freelance Editors’ Association of Canada to promote and maintain high standards of editing. In 1994, the word “Freelance” was dropped to reflect the association’s expanding focus to serve both freelance and in-house editors.
