Changes at the national office

Dear members and student affiliates,

I am writing to let you know about changes at the national office.

John Yip-Chuck has resigned as executive director of the Editors’ Association of Canada (Editors Canada) effective January 17, 2020. He has this message of thanks to share with members:

“Thank you, Editors/Réviseurs Canada members, for all the great memories in my time as executive director of the association. Over the past three years I’ve had so many great interactions with members online and in person at our annual conferences and local events. It has been a pleasure working for the organization that helped me get into a career in editing and publishing nearly 25 years ago, and I hope the association will continue to grow and prosper.”

We are sad to see him go but are grateful to have had him as executive director for the past three years. He has done an outstanding job and has made some very positive and lasting changes to how things work at the office. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Lucy White, a member of the Osborne Group, will act as our interim executive director beginning on January 20, 2020, for the next three to six months while we go through the process to hire a new executive director. Lucy has extensive hands-on experience in small- to medium-sized volunteer-based organizations, focusing on governance, building human and financial capacity, program development, and stakeholder engagement. She addresses the high-level long-term objectives of an organization by ensuring that volunteers and staff have the resources and supports they require to work effectively. She is also adept at managing day-to-day operations by working collaboratively with staff in all functional areas.

As the interim executive director, Lucy will be in the office three days a week and will assume all responsibilities of this role to:

  • provide leadership and stability to the organization and its stakeholders (NEC, staff, volunteers, and members)
  • ensure continuance of the day-to-day operations
  • support the NEC in oversight and governance
  • assist as needed in the recruitment of a permanent executive director
  • ensure a smooth and successful transition to new leadership

We welcome Lucy and look forward to working with her.
