1. NATIONAL OFFICE: EAC welcomes a new executive director
The national executive council is pleased to announce the appointment of Carolyn L Burke to the position of executive director. Carolyn, who stepped in as the association’s interim executive director in July, has agreed to stay on permanently to head up the national office and oversee the association’s finances and operations.
“We’re thrilled with the progress EAC has made in the short time Carolyn has been with us,” says EAC president Moira White. “We couldn’t be happier that she’s staying on board.”
“There’s a lot of good work being done in this association,” says Carolyn, who will focus on marketing and revenue generation. “I’m looking forward to helping EAC enhance its profile and ensuring the association improves its financial health.”
More information about Carolyn is available at http://www.integrityincorporated.com/management.aspx.
2. PROMOTE YOURSELF: EAC’s new Online Directory of Editors is here!
On September 10, EAC launched the new, completely redesigned Online Directory of Editors (ODE). And promoting yourself never looked better! In addition to a brand-new look that is more user friendly for editors and for people looking for editors, the new directory boasts many new features. Members with ODE profiles will benefit from
- individual profile pages
- protected email addresses
- more search options
- optimization for search engines
- more profile options
- and so much more!
What’s more, any member can create a profile in the ODE—even before paying for it. It won’t be published until you pay for it, but you can still create and preview your profile to see how you would benefit from listing in the ODE.
Visit EAC’s new Online Directory of Editors today.
A listing through June 2009 costs just $7.50* per month (to a maximum of $75*). Don’t pass up this opportunity to promote yourself. For payment instructions and more information about the ODE, visit the Your online directory listing page in the Members’ Area of the association website today.

3. CERTIFICATION: Register for this year’s tests
The Certification Steering Committee is pleased to report that the response to the 2008 administration has been overwhelming. Registrations for this year’s tests are well ahead of last year.
New Test Offered
For the first time, you can take the Structural and Stylistic Editing test. The launch of this fourth and final test completes the full cycle of EAC’s certification program. In 2009, we look forward to congratulating the first editors to receive EAC’s Certified Professional Editor (CPE) designation.
Editors from across Canada are benefiting from EAC certification. Join the professional editors who have made the decision to pursue official recognition of excellent editing knowledge and skill—and a marketing advantage—today.
For more information and to register online, go to EAC’s Certification website. Registration closes on Monday, October 27, 2008, at 1 p.m. EDT. As an EAC member, you benefit from discounted pricing on the certification tests—plus extra savings if you register for more than one test.
4. GOOGLE US: Promote EAC
The Website Committee wants to make the EAC’s website as effective as possible, both for EAC members and for clients looking for an editor. Improving the site’s ranking in Google search results is one area where we can all contribute. According to Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, it’s important to have links from other relevant sites. That’s where you can help.
- If you have a website, add a link to editors.ca.
- If you post to blogs, add editors.ca to your signature.
- If you have a profile in the new Online Directory of Editors, place a link to it on your website (and link back to your website in your ODE profile).
The Website Committee’s work on the new ODE has opened the door to some exciting new features for the website and Interactive Voice. Stay tuned for announcements about new features and services over the next few months.
