When you buy a webinar recording, you’ll receive a video file to watch at your leisure on your computer or mobile device. The file is yours to keep, so you can watch it again and again.

Visit our webinar recordings page to see what’s available now. We’re adding new recordings regularly, so be sure to check often.

2. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: Show the world you’re at the top of your editing game

You’ve worked at mastering the craft of editing; now earn a professional certification to demonstrate your expertise to employers, clients and peers, too. Certification can open professional doors, serves as a powerful marketing tool, and may allow you to command a higher salary or rates.

Registration for the 2021 professional certification exams is now open. This year, Editors Canada is offering the Structural Editing and Proofreading exams.

Exam date:
Saturday, November 20, 2021

Times:
Structural Editing: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., local time
Proofreading: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., local time

Editors Canada is moving all professional certification exams to a fully electronic format. This means that the Proofreading exam, which was previously offered on paper, will now be written onscreen, using PDF: candidates will be asked to mark up text using the annotation tools in (the free) Adobe Acrobat Reader. Instructions will be provided in advance so that candidates can familiarize themselves with this markup method.

In addition, Editors Canada will not arrange in-person examination sites in 2021. Instead, we plan to offer two ways to take the exam:

  • Remote proctoring: We are working on a method to offer the exams using a remote proctoring service, which will enable candidates to write the exam on their own computer at home, providing they have a webcam and stable Internet access. Details to come!
  • Arrange your own site and invigilator: Candidates can take advantage of our existing remote testing policy, whereby you arrange to write the exam at a test location that’s convenient for you, providing it meets certain criteria and you can arrange for a suitable invigilator.

Don’t miss the chance to demonstrate your expertise! Register online now for one or both exams. The registration deadline is October 22, 2021. Visit the Professional Certification section of our website for additional details.

3. PUBLICATIONS: Writing and editing for equity, diversity and inclusion

The publications committee is looking for members interested in writing and/or editing for the handbook subcommittee. Our project is tentatively titled: No Reader Left Behind: Writing and Editing for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

Email the publications committee co-chairs for more information or to get involved.

4. DISCOUNTS: The Chicago Manual of Style is now in PerfectIt proofreading software

Earlier this month, The University of Chicago Press and Intelligent Editing announced that The Chicago Manual of Style for PerfectIt is now available. Customers with individual subscriptions to both The Chicago Manual of Style Online (CMOS Online) and PerfectIt can now update to the latest version of PerfectIt to install the new features, free of charge.

Given the nature of the new product and the collaboration between The University of Chicago Press and Intelligent Editing, they are unable to offer CMOS for PerfectIt free of charge to Editors Canada through our website. Members will need individual subscriptions to both products if they’d like to use the add-in.

Thanks to our own partnerships with The University of Chicago Press and Intelligent Editing, we’re pleased to offer several ways you can access CMOS Online, PerfectIt and The Chicago Manual of Style for PerfectIt at discounted rates.
