Present a session at the 2026 Editors Canada conference
Conference details
The 2026 Editors Canada conference, Editors26, will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from May 21 to 23 at Dalhousie University.
Conference theme
The theme of the 2026 Editors Canada conference is Editing in the Age of Misinformation.
Misinformation isn’t just about fake news; it’s also the assumptions we make, the language we let slide and the identities we misrepresent. Editors are uniquely positioned to catch what others miss and to create more truthful, inclusive and responsible content. This year, we encourage attendees to open their ears, eyes and minds—using their love of accuracy and clear communication—to take their skills and responsibilities to the next level.

The 2026 conference committee welcomes sessions—presentations, panels and workshops—related to the following streams:
- Representing editing: communicating the importance of the editing industry to the larger world, including navigating misinformation about the profession, and bringing editing into spaces where it may not be standard practice to do so.
- Editing in all areas: describing how editors deal with challenges across multiple industries, creative and otherwise, including maintaining work–life balance, updating specialized knowledge, managing expectations and setting pay rates
- Misinformation versus disinformation: differentiating between and dealing with bad-faith and good-faith intentions in editing spheres.
- Boundaries and borders: editing across international borders, including managing time zones and expectations, dealing with multiple currencies and navigating cultural differences.
- Censorship: editing content that may be censored, encountering censorship laws and regulations, and responding when editing is seen as censorship but isn’t.
- Personal versus professional: maintaining separation between personal opinions or preferences and professional advice, and understanding where and when the separation between the two areas collapses.
- Fact and fiction: positioning fact-checking as its own specialization and as a skill that applies to editing both fiction and non-fiction.
- Common and uncommon: identifying common and uncommon misconceptions or inaccuracies and understanding how editors can streamline their editing process to recognize and deal with them.
- AI and editing: providing insight into how editors are integrating AI into their work and personal lives.
- Strategies and software: presenting editors’ favourite tips, tricks and programs for running businesses, tackling workloads and preparing for the future of editing
- Trending topics: highlighting recent developments in editing.
- Getting started: finding and getting work as a beginner editor, running a business as a freelancer and breaking into the industry as someone outside the profession.
Sessions may be offered in English, French or both. Sessions will be one hour long, including time for introductions, breakout discussions or other activities, and Q&A.
The conference committee is excited to receive proposals from new speakers. If you have an idea you’d like to explore, please don’t disqualify yourself based on presentation experience. We would love to hear from you!
