Alex Benarzi

Profile

Hello,

I am Alex Benarzi, a freelance editor specializing in fiction, creative nonfiction, and academic writing. I have been recognized for my ability to “[walk] the line between suggestion, prescription, observation, and deference.” As an editor, my goal is to encourage and elevate your writing.

I am an advocate for accessibility in digital and literary spaces, using my voice to help create welcoming spaces where stories and opportunities can be accessed by everyone.

Put these two strands together and you will find someone who is passionate about the impact words can have. Not just any words, but your words—the unique, human voice that is very much needed today.

Whether you write lyrical prose or a formal application, I use my training and fascination with words to help you uncover and elevate your unique voice and ideas through developmental (structural) and line (stylistic) editing. I can help you shape your unique voice to speak to your audience in a language they will embrace.

I also offer careful copy editing to ensure consistency and correctness in your work. I am proficient in The Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), New Hart’s Rules (Oxford) and APA style. I am also passionate about Canadian English, serving as a member on the board of the Society of Canadian English. I encourage Canadians to embrace our national language and use it accurately.

I have been volunteering for Editors Canada since I joined the association. My commitment to learning about editing and improving the conditions for editors in Canada filter down into the care and dedication i put into all my work with clients.

Reach out today if you want a dedicated partner for your book, article, paper, application, or website. I look forward to helping you build your community with your readers.
