Profile

After a thirty-year career as a university teacher of creative writing and English literature, I have returned to editing. I can help you polish your short stories or novel for publication, or clarify your language in your non-fiction or academic writing. I have five years’ experience freelance editing. My clients have included magazine publishers and editors as well as academic publishers. For two years I was editor of the journal Scintilla published at the University of Toronto, doing manuscript evaluation, structural editing, copy editing, and proofreading. In 2013, I co-edited a collection of academic essays published by Four Courts Press in Ireland. I’ve also written and edited promotional materials, biographies, and booklets for the Canadian Children’s Book Centre and for children’s literature conferences. I have written a range of fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults, as well as academic books and a biography. My doctorate (Medieval Studies) from the University of Toronto focused on women in medieval Celtic literature, but I bring a broad range of literary expertise to my editing. I am thorough, meticulous, and reliable. I also offer coaching for writers who would like advice and feedback on nascent writing projects.
