Carolyn Johnstone

Carolyn Johnstone founded Clear Expressions Inc. in 2003, and contiunes to work out of Canada’s national capital region.

Carolyn’s proficiency with clear expression has been developed through a blend of specialty areas—ten years as a technical illustrator (often editing the writers’ work!), then over 20 years as a documentation specialist, word artist, and plain language translator.

With an Honours BSc in Psychology and Cognitive Science from the University of Toronto and a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, Carolyn has a solid foundation of insight into the finer points of word artistry.

Through Clear Expressions, Carolyn has enjoyed working with individuals, large and small businesses, government agencies, and non-government organizations on all manner of writing projects. From editing academic papers and writing annual reports, to preparing suites of policy and process documents, to developing regulatory documents, preparing RFP responses, and just about everything in between, Carolyn’s attention to detail and passion for plain language “translation” keep yielding quality results.
