Profile
Memoir ~ Biography ~ Creative Nonfiction ~ Fiction
With a degree in cinema studies, I edit memoir, biography, creative nonfiction, and fiction, helping writers shape lived experience into clear, emotionally resonant stories. My main focus is on shaping narrative flow, strenghtening structure, and deepening emotional impact.
I provide structural/substantive, stylistic/line, developmental, and copy editing, tailoring each level of support to the needs of the manuscript. Whether a writer is refining voice and pacing or clarifying the arc of a personal story, I take a collaborative approach to helping writers strengthen what’s already working on the page.
Specialtis include:
· Memoir, biography, family history, creative nonfiction
· Fiction and subgenres (mystery, fantasy, historical, magical realism, women’s fiction, children’s stories)
· Manuscript and screenplay evaluation
· Self-improvement and motivational nonfiction, helping authors strengthen message, structure, and impact
· Short-form nonfiction, including articles, newsletters, and rewriting for clarity and impact
My editing and writing experience spans arts, academic, legal, and business environments, giving me a practical understanding of varied professional and personal writing styles.
“I try to leave out the parts that people skip.” ~ Elmore Leonard
As an editor and writer, I treat words as currency and strive to balance clarity, creativity, and emotional truth. I value writing as both an intuitive skill and an act of mind and heart. The right words can shift meaning the way music in film steers emotion; the richer our use of language’s subtleties, the more effectively we connect.
“I love writing . . . the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.”
~ James A. Michener
I maintain ongoing professional development through Editors Canada webinars and personal research in writing and publishing. I regard writing as one of the most engaging of the arts–capable of making us feel, think, and surrender to the heart of the story or message.
Final Writes helps both emerging and published authors define and refine their unique voice and style.
“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”
~ Mark Twain
