The Academic Editing Special Interest Group (SIG) is a collaboration of Editors Canada and the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). It was started in 2022 and has more than 700 members with expertise across the disciplines. Academic editors work on articles and manuscript monographs, dissertations and theses, grant applications, tenure and promotion dossiers, textbooks, course materials, open educational resources, knowledge translation materials, and many other types of academic writing. The purpose of the Academic Editing Special Interest Group purpose is to support its members through networking events, professional development and the promotion of academic editing. The SIG hosts an online book club and regular coffee chats for its members, where books and topics relevant to academic editors are discussed. Its “Let’s Talk About” series features presentations by professionals with editing and business expertise. The SIG plans and organizes education and training for established and emerging editors through the EFA and Editors Canada. It also produces et al., a monthly newsletter.
