Profile
I am a freelance editor, writer, and educator with extensive experience helping authors and students develop clarity, precision, and style in their writing. My background includes several years teaching English with the College of the Rockies, where I guided learners in academic and professional communication, and more recently, work as a technical writer and editor supporting projects in education, social research, and nonfiction and fiction publishing. As an editor, I bring a thoughtful and collaborative approach to every project, whether refining the structure of a manuscript, strengthening argument flow in essays, or polishing language for publication. My areas of interest include social issues, education, and health writing, and I have recently completed a 30,000-word book on herbal medicine, which deepened my understanding of clear, reader-focused nonfiction.I offer manuscript evaluation, structural editing, copy editing, and proofreading services for fiction and nonfiction writers seeking constructive, detail-oriented feedback. I hold a bachelor’s degree in English and a graduate degree in technical writing and editing. I am also completing the Editors Canada–recognized SFU Editors Certificate, further strengthening my expertise in professional editing standards and practices.

Ailis was a fantastic editor and a pleasure to work with. She communicated with me regularly and clearly articulated the work ahead, the deadlines, and any expectations of me. I really can’t think of anything she could have done to improve on; in fact, working with Ailis was a great opportunity for me to reflect and improve my process as a manager. 10 of 10 (10 being very effective) – Ailis was very organized and concise in her editing process. – Her comments added value to my work and were delivered with tact and diplomacy. – Each level of review was built on the previous round and made for a full edit. – In advance of her work, I received a short email advising me of what was coming through and what the next steps were. – At the end of the process, I felt that my work very much remained my work but was improved through her contributions.
