Editor Profile

Alexander Elcombe

Profile

The purpose of a copy editor is not to enforce correctness: it is to facilitate understanding.

Student of literature; lover of stories; descriptivist; infodumper; overthinker; anarchic pedant. Alex is happiest where you can’t see him—behind the screen, behind the fourth wall, behind the proverbial curtain, invisibly connecting author to reader in search of that ever-elusive moment of truly knowing what someone else means. Ontario-based editor of fiction and nonfiction, academic writing, poetry, user interfaces, and pretty much any other set of words you can think of. Member of Editors Canada and recipient of the 2023 Equity Fellowship and a 2024 President’s Award.
