“Thank you for the outstanding editing of my book ms. Not only do you have a keen eye for stylistic errors, you also engage with content, and your suggestions for clarification or rephrasing made my book a far better one. Your editing work is an entirely different league from the copy editing provided by the presses with which I have worked.” — Prof. Derek Penslar, Harvard University
“All your suggestions are excellent and greatly improve the piece.” — Dr. Charles Labrecque, Research Director, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada
Dr. Liat Radcliffe Ross is a freelance editor, specializing in academic/research-based manuscripts and NGO communications. Liat works with clients across the globe — from Canada to China, Harvard University to the University of Haifa — to help make their written communication as clear and compelling as possible.
Liat has been editing, writing and doing research for 25 years. She has worked in academia, print journalism, policy research and finance in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
Liat earned her doctorate in international relations from the University of Oxford. She honed her professional editing skills through courses offered by Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and Editors Canada.
Recent editing projects include a book on India’s international relations; an article about Canada’s trade in digital services; reports on First Nations housing and Canadian immigrant employment; and a monthly newsletter and online content for This Is My Earth, an international environmental organization.
Liat has edited a wide variety of communications for international NGOs, including annual reports, grant applications, fundraising letters, websites, newsletters, brochures, and social media and blog posts. These projects have given her extensive experience working with authors for whom English is a second language and allowed her to learn basic website development, in particular, Wordpress.
Institutional clients have included the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, Conference Board of Canada, European Music Council, International Institute for Strategic Studies, University of Haifa, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto and University of Toronto Press. Individual academic clients have been affiliated with a variety of universities, including Cambridge, Guelph, Haifa, Harvard, Ottawa, Sussex, Toronto, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Western Ontario and York (Canada).
Other relevant work experience includes a multi-year stint as a journalist in the London bureau of Newsweek magazine and a year-long research assistantship at a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.
“Thank you Liat. Your suggestions and comments are very important and really improved our manuscript.” — Prof. Ido Izhaki, Vice President and Dean of Research, University of Haifa
“Your suggestions were tremendously helpful! You did more than expected! Thank you very much…” — Assistant professor, University of Ottawa
