Emma Theriault

I am a freelance editor and writer, offering stylistic editing, copy editing, proofreading, and copywriting services for businesses, non-profit organizations, and all levels of government. 
I also love a good fiction project and welcome the opportunity to help self-published authors tighten up and polish their manuscripts before publication. 

As my business name, Lap Cat Editing, suggests, I take a friendly, relational approach to editing, focused on building trust with my clients and honouring the work you have done to develop your ideas and capture them in writing. I take the time to explain my suggested edits so that you can make informed decisions about whether to accept them.

In addition to professional training as an editor through Simon Fraser University’s Editing Certificate program, I bring to the table a passion for language, an eye for detail, and over 20 years of experience writing for government and my own small business. I have written and revised all manner of documents, from briefing notes to web content. And I have worked with an equally broad range of topics, primarily in the arts and social sciences. There isn’t much I haven’t dabbled in, but I have a particular passion for projects that deal with environmental sustainability, economic development, and social justice.
