Editor Profile

Emma Warnken Johnson

Profile

I am an experienced editor and indexer of academic writing, textbooks, trade non-fiction, and materials for educational and non-profit organizations.

I specialize in the humanities and social sciences, with a particular emphasis on areas in which I have academic training: cultural anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, history, and classical studies. I also have experience in the areas of sociology, education, health studies, film, and gender & sexuality studies.

My background

I’ve worked on over 250 projects in the last 14 years, and have additional experience as an in-house production manager at an academic press, where I managed approximately 15 new titles at a time, including scheduling, budgeting, hiring freelancers, working with authors, and maintaining quality control. I received my editorial training at Toronto Metropolitan University, where I completed the publishing certificate.

Originally trained in the social sciences, I hold a BA in Anthropology and Classics (McGill University) and an MA in Archaeology (Institute of Archaeology, UCL). I have experience in fieldwork, archival work, and original research in those areas.
