Profile
Hello! I provide copy, stylistic and substantive editing services with a specialization in poetry and genre fiction. I hold a BA in English Literature and Environment, Sustainability & Society, and I’ve completed training in editing from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson).
My clients have included trade publishers, independent authors, and academic journals, and I’m experienced with style guides such as APA and MLA. Wondering if your project fits my skills and specialities? Get in touch for more information and a free quote.
Alongside my editing, I am a writer of short fiction, poetry, and the occasional journalistic piece. In 2013, I received the Joyce Barkhouse Writing for Children award from the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia for a novella manuscript, and since 2019 I have been a three-time finalist in the international NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge. I love working with words, and my writing experience is a big part of how I help other writers polish their work and express themselves powerfully and professionally.
Since 2014, I have volunteered as editor for Open Heart Forgery, a grassroots poetry project for writers and readers in Nova Scotia and beyond.
Here is what some of my clients have to say about my work:
“I’m very pleased with the copy edit Georgia Atkin completed on my romance novel. In addition to grammar errors and missing words, she caught factual errors, anachronisms, and even inconsistent character behaviour. Her work was professional – on time and on budget – and thorough.” —Tim
“Georgia is a consummate professional. She is organized in her approach, showing up to her editing work with clear timelines and intuitive feedback. She was open and clear in her communication despite the challenges of working entirely online, and was very patient through multiple rounds of editing. Her attention to detail sharpened the language I used in my book, clarifying my poetry and helping to identify the steps I needed to take to move forward with my writing.” —Evelyn
