I work on internal and client-facing digital and print documentation and publications to ensure they are fit for purpose in terms of style, content, organization, design, and target readership. I also advise on using images and other visuals effectively and legally. I can work with you from concept to final sign-off, offering input into design along the way, or I can drop in whenever you need a fresh pair of eyes, an objective opinion, or simply some professional advice. I am accustomed to balancing the needs of multiple parties and invest time and effort in creating an environment of trust. My clients include non-profit organizations, corporate bodies, researchers and research groups, traditional and hybrid publishers, and academics. I have regularly managed small teams since 2002, been involved in contract reviews and hiring paid staff, and sat on local and national executive boards and steering committees.

Many of the projects I work on are collaborations with branches of international organizations such as UNESCO or are destined for submission to departments of the Government of Canada such as GAC. I also work directly with UNESCO.

Technical skills:

Developmental and substantive editing, stylistic and copy editing (including documents written by people whose first or principal working language is not English).

Editing for plain language (clear language) and readability (in particular: legal and health information and global development material).

Revising and editing translations (comparative reading of English < > French translations for accuracy; editing translations from languages other than French into English for style and fluency).

Editing knowledge translation and technical material.

Updating and creating crisis communications plans; updating and creating house styles (including as part of branding updates); creating and offering guidance on QA processes for documents.
