Editor Profile

Maria Scala

Profile

I am a supportive editor with more than 20 years’
experience and a Master of Publishing from Simon Fraser University. Whether it’s
fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or corporate pieces on architecture and design, I approach
each assignment with dedication, enthusiasm, and energy. I love assisting
writers at all stages of their careers, as long as they are open to feedback
and growth.

Along with working
in the aforementioned genres, I have extensive experience in the field of mother-centric
writing, having spent nearly nine years editing columns for Literary Mama,
as well as serving as its editor-in-chief for the last two. Being part of that community
made me a more compassionate and flexible editor, since I was engaging with writers
at various stages of their publishing journeys, who were juggling multiple responsibilities.

I am also a published
poet and arts and culture writer, with poems, essays, and articles appearing in
Canadian and international magazines, literary journals, and anthologies. My love
of poetry has led me to edit chapbooks for my alma mater, the University of Ottawa,
and their Friday Circle series.
