Editor Profile

Natalia Iwanek

Profile

I am a freelance copy editor, stylistic editor, and proofreader, focusing on non-fiction and fiction (science fiction and horror).  I also specialize in plain language, inclusive language, and accessibility.

My edits all include additional commentary and suggestions based on inclusive language best practices. This ensures that the manuscript or document avoids outdated terminology, stereotypes, and tropes, while fostering a sense of inclusion.

Editing Background

I graduated from the Editing Certificate and Plain Language Certificate programs at Simon Fraser University and have an educational background in English Literature and Political Science. I have also taken extensive professional development courses and certificates through Editors Canada, Editors Toronto, as well as other professional organizations. I am currently a Master’s of Spanish Translation student.

I am a long-time member of and volunteer for Editors Canada and Editors Toronto.

I currently serve as the co-editor-in-chief of BoldFace blog, the official blog of Editors Toronto.

I previously served on the Marketing and Communications Committee, the Student Relations Committee, and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Task Force.

I received the Editors Canada President’s Award for Volunteer Service in 2021 and 2020.
