Everyone’s heard it . . . “This book needs an editor!” Thousand-page tome used as a doorstop? Editor. Verb tense switch mid-book? Editor. All those spelling mistakes? Editor.

Here’s the thing: those three books had editors. Thousand-page stream-of-consciousness
Ducks, Newburyport was shortlisted for the Booker, won the Goldsmiths, and you name it, it was a Best Book pick. Remove the verb tense switch and
Gone Girl is just gone. And as for spelling mistakes, well, sometimes unconventional style requires the occasional (or constant) slip of the pen. Check out Anthony Burgess’s use of Nadsat argot in
A Clockwork Orange and John Rechy’s street-hustler “youngman” brogue in
City of Night
to observe the swing from wild to subtle.

Every writer needs an editor. It’s the fundamental peer review relationship of all literature and the outcomes can be glorious. My job as your editor is to help guide you from ambiguity to clarity, from word-wandering to word-wonderful, from “it’s finished” to “it’s ready.”

I love authors and the unique stories they bring to market. I’m looking to work with strong voices and compelling narratives. Let’s explore your literary novel set in a small town drowning in secrets and ensure no stone is left unturned; polish up your light-hearted, magazine-headed mystery novella, the one with the house with the odd-shaped window in the attic; check that your deep dive into the background of your favourite musical artist’s albums has the oxygen it needs to sustain the reader; ensure every word in that great short story is working for, not against.

I won’t make you kill your darlings — but if it serves the story I may advise you to write one of them into a different room or save another for an altogether new project. You’ll write “The End” with confidence in a job well done.

Feel free to get in contact and let’s discuss your project and your goals.
