Profile

Whether you’re writing a novel or short story, a government report or a corporate newsletter, I can help shape it into the manuscript you imagined. With 30+ years of experience in the publishing industry, first as a freelance writer of essays, articles, non-fiction books and educational material, then as a USA Today bestselling author of 30 novels and novellas, I’ve got plenty of experience in this industry. Completing the Simon Fraser University Editing Program gave me the knowledge to work on the “other side” of the desk.

I specialize in commercial fiction, especially romance and women’s fiction, editing for dramatic structure, narrative cohesion, character arcs and genre-specific beats. However, I will tailor my editing to your needs, from full structural editing to shaping your manuscript for the best chance at publication, to partial manuscript evaluation for developmental advice.

My largest non-fiction projects to date include providing developmental, stylistic, and copyediting for both the Cullen Commission Report into Moneylaundering in BC, and the Federal Commission Report on the 2022 Public Order Emergency.

I’ve worked with many authors over the years and understand all too well the challenging publishing landscape, the vulnerability of new authors, the fear of rejection. I will be honest and thorough, and you will work hard. But I will always be kind, respectful and encouraging. “Brutally honest. Honestly kind. Kind of funny.” That’s me.
