I have been editing academic materials, including grant applications, tenure applications, PhD dissertations (only with supervisors’ permission), articles, books, etc. for over 25 years. I specialize in substantive and developmental editing in STEM, and I love to work with authors who are not native speakers of English. 

I received my PhD in the history and philosophy of science and technology from the University of Toronto; my research focused on the development of information technology in botany the long 18th century, mainly in France. Since then, in addition to my work as an academic editor, I have worked in medical market research, at a biotechnology startup, and, most recently, as the Director of Business Intelligence at a cryptography-focused cybersecurity startup for seven years. I am familiar with both the academic and business worlds and can help target materials to many different audiences.

Areas in which I have special expertise include: natural and hard sciences, medicine, engineering, computer science, biology, taxonomy, ecology, botany (plants, agriculture, gardening), mycology (fungi), ichthyology (including aquariums and tropical fish), herpetology (reptiles, lizards), ornithology (birds), palaeontology (fossils), wildlands restoration, knitting, crocheting, sewing, home improvement, health policy, international food labelling regulations, food safety, privacy and security, payments and banking (AML, KYC, etc.) and other technical subjects, especially those that use a lot of Latin terminology.
