Profile

I’m a professional freelance copy editor based in Toronto. I love the beauty of the English language and believe in the power of words to unite people. I use my passion for plain and conscious language and extensive knowledge of grammar to help writers communicate their message to readers clearly and effectively.

I have an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English and Humanities and have completed the Editorial Skills Program at George Brown College. I’ve spent over thirty years communicating with a diverse and multicultural public. During that time I worked in deadline sensitive environments and followed strict rules of confidentiality.

Over the years I’ve edited, improved the layout of, and written for several newsletters. Most recently, I’ve copy edited a book, a weekly electronic newsletter and articles for an online magazine. I know how to edit for the internet and have a working knowledge of Chicago and Canadian Press styles.

I’ll edit your project—big or small—with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while respecting your unique voice. I’ll also bring my positivity, kindness and empathy to the editing process.

Are you a first-time author or a person who has English as a second language? If so, I’d like to help you polish your work to make sure your readers understand what you’re trying to say.

I’m an Anglophile who loves learning new things. When I’m not editing, my hobbies include reading (especially mysteries, biographies and historical non-fiction), learning German, genealogy, baking, music, and cryptic crosswords. I’m a Star Trek fan who attends science fiction conventions and has been a member of the filk community for over thirty years. I enjoy watching British TV shows including anything starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth or Lucy Worsley. I love beading and have been a member of the Toronto Bead Society since 2005. I crochet and cross-stitch and like exploring other crafts.

I look forward to helping you connect with your audience in a positive and mindful way.
