Susan Fitzgerald

I have over 25 years of experience as a writer, editor, and researcher. I work with a wide range of clients, including independent writers, students, researchers, businesses, nonprofit organizations, fiction authors, children’s authors, authors of nonfiction trade books, and publishers. I regularly edit children’s fiction, young adult fiction, memoirs, and trade nonfiction for Dundurn Press. My own writing has been published in academic journals and books, community magazines, and children’s magazines.

My education includes a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree in linguistics and a master’s degree in library and information science. I have a copy editing certificate from the University of California, Berkeley, and I regularly take professional development courses in editing and writing. I have taught university-level linguistics courses and bring an understanding of the complexity and context of language use to my work.

I view editing as a collaboration, and my goal as an editor is to help writers get their messages across clearly and correctly while maintaining their own voice.
