The conference committee is pleased to announce the dates and venue for Editors Canada’s 2026 conference
Venue and dates
In 2026, we’re heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia, for three days of sharing knowledge, making connections and exploring the boundaries of craft and city alike! The conference will take place on Dalhousie University’s downtown campus and run from May 21 to 23, 2026.
Theme
The theme of the 2026 Editors Canada conference is Editing in the Age of Misinformation.
Misinformation isn’t just about fake news. It’s also the assumptions we make, the language we let slide and the identities we misrepresent. Editors are uniquely positioned to catch what others miss and to create more truthful, inclusive and responsible content. This year, we encourage attendees to open their ears, eyes and minds—using their love of accuracy and clear communication to take their skills and responsibilities to the next level.
Chairs
We would like to introduce our 2026 conference co-chairs, Melanie Pitman and Jenn Tonna.
Melanie Pitman
Melanie Pitman spends her workdays writing and copy editing online articles about personal finance. She is very, very passionate about consistent formatting. Outside of work, she loves listening to audiobooks while walking her beloved dog, Ivy, and attending Mooseheads hockey games with her partner, Eric, in her hometown of Halifax. Her favourite part of being co-chair of Editors Atlantic is compiling the monthly Twig Tunes playlist, which always features at least two Taylor Swift songs.
Jenn Tonna
Jenn loves the proofreading side of things, especially fiction and small-p political think pieces. As an author and part-time freelance editor, she also deeply relates to a wide spectrum of genres. When she isn’t assisting with outside projects, she keeps the right side of her brain alive performing summer stand-up comedy in Halifax. You can often find her hiking around the Halifax Regional Municipality or building castles in Minecraft.
