1. MEMBER CONSULTATION: Have your say before the May 4 deadline

In April the national executive council distributed a Draft Proposal for New Membership Categories and a Draft Policy for Branches for membership review. Depending on the outcome of this consultation, the council may present versions of these documents for member ratification at our June 2006 national annual general meeting. Your comments will be considered in any final revision, so be sure to get your feedback in before the May 4 deadline.

TIP: Jump to the Association Issues section of the Interactive Voice discussion board to download the documents and have your say online.

You can also send email feedback to the Member Communication Committee.

2. ACTIVE VOICE: Read the April issue online

The latest issue of Active Voice has been posted on the EAC website. In the April issue:

  • Searching for Tom Fairley: A freelance editor remembered by EAC members
  • Including everyone in the conversation: An editorial
  • Readers’ corner: Reaction to the first issue of 2006
  • Cultivating Diversity: 2006 conference highlights
  • James Harbeck serves up a recipe for successful layout
  • A sneak peek at the certification study guide and exemplars
  • Eavesdropping on the EAC listserv
  • Karen Virag asks, “What part of the word ‘reflexive’ don’t you understand?”

TIP: Jump to the EAC website to download Active Voice — no password required!

TIP: You’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to read Active Voice.
Your software configuration will determine how PDF files are handled. For example, when you click on a PDF link, the document may open within your web browser, or the document may automatically download to your hard drive. To override your default settings and choose how to handle a file, either right-click (PC) or control-click (Mac) on the PDF link. Then select your preference from the pop-up menu.

3. 2006 AGM: EAC’s annual general meeting is fast approaching

A reminder that EAC’s AGM is coming up on June 10 in Vancouver, BC. The official call to meeting will go out on May 19 and proxies will be mailed that week to all up-to-date voting members of the association. If you’re currently an associate member but now meet the requirements of voting membership, take a few moments to apply for voting status.

TIP: Editing experience forms required to make the transition from associate to voting member status are available from the members’ area.

The EAC National E-News Update is produced on behalf of the national executive council by the national office.
