Toronto, May 28, 2015—The Editors’ Association of Canada (EAC) is pleased to announce that 16 editors have earned a total of 24 new professional certifications. This year EAC recognizes 10 new certified proofreaders, 9 new certified structural editors and 5 new certified professional editors. Since the program’s launch in 2006, EAC has awarded 236 certifications to 107 professional editors.
“Becoming a certified editor requires a great deal of skill, experience and hard work,” says interim president Moira White. “We’re delighted to congratulate the newest certified editors for their tremendous achievement.”

The Editors’ Association of Canada created its certification program to promote and maintain professional standards of excellence, to help editors develop professionally, and to enhance the status of editing as a profession in Canada. As recognition of certification continues to grow, the benefits increase for corporations, governments, not-for-profit organizations, educational organizations, publishing companies, and individuals seeking professional editors with superior levels of knowledge, experience and skills.
2015 Certification Tests
Registration for the 2015 certification tests opens this July. Copy editing and stylistic editing will be offered on Saturday, November 14, 2015, in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. The proofreading and structural editing tests will be offered again in 2016.

The Editors’ Association of Canada/Association canadienne des réviseurs began in 1979 as the Freelance Editors’ Association of Canada to promote and maintain high standards of editing. EAC is the voice of editors in Canada, with 1,500 members and affiliates, both salaried and freelance, who work in the corporate, technical, government, not-for-profit and publishing sectors.
