Toronto, June 28, 2023—The Editors’ Association of Canada (Editors Canada) is pleased to announce that six editors have earned new professional certifications. This year, Editors Canada recognizes three new Certified Copy Editors, three new Certified Stylistic Editors and one new Certified Professional Editor.

Since the launch of its landmark professional certification program, Editors Canada has awarded 309 certifications to 141 professional editors.

Editors Canada created its professional certification program to promote and maintain professional standards of excellence, to help editors develop professionally, and to enhance the status of editing as a profession in Canada. As recognition of professional certification continues to grow, the benefits increase for corporations, governments, not-for-profit organizations, educational organizations, publishing companies and individuals seeking professional editors with superior levels of knowledge, experience and skills.

Editors Canada began in 1979 as the Freelance Editors’ Association of Canada to promote and maintain high standards of editing. In 1994, the word “Freelance” was dropped to reflect the association’s expanding focus to serve both freelance and in-house editors. As Canada’s only national editorial association, it is the hub for 1,300 members and affiliates, both salaried and freelance, who work in the corporate, technical, government, academic, not-for-profit and publishing sectors. The association’s professional development programs and services include professional certification, an annual conference, seminars, webinars, and networking with other associations.
