First awarded in 2021, the Editors Canada Equity Fellowship is designed to support editors who have traditionally been excluded by the publishing and editing industries, including editors who are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of colour), 2SLGBTQIA+, neurodivergent and disabled.
“On behalf of Editors Canada, I am proud to congratulate this year’s recipients of the Equity Fellowship,” says president Kaitlin Littlechild. “Your voices, perspectives and dedication are helping to shape a more inclusive, representative and vibrant editorial community. This fellowship recognizes the vital role you will play in expanding whose stories are told—and how they are told. We are honoured to support your journey and look forward to the lasting impact of your work.”
The Equity Fellowship provides the following to up to three successful applicants each year:
- registration for the annual conference or the congrès des langagiers et langagières (in French only) of Editors Canada;
- three Editors Canada webinars;
- one copy of the book Editing Canadian English (and Editorial Niches);
- one copy of the ebook From Contact to Contract;
- one copy of each of the four Certification Test Preparation Guides;
- membership in Editors Canada for one year; and
- a listing in the Editors Canada Online Directory of Editors for one year.
Each fellowship is valued at $1,250.

About Editors Canada
Additional information about the Equity Fellowship can be found on the Editors Canada website.
Editors Canada began in 1979 as the Freelance Editors’ Association of Canada to promote and maintain high standards of editing. In 1994, the word “Freelance” was dropped to reflect the association’s expanding focus to serve both freelance and in-house editors. As Canada’s only national editorial association, it is the hub for members and affiliates, both salaried and freelance, who work in the corporate, technical, government, not-for-profit and publishing sectors. The association’s professional development programs and services include professional certification, an annual conference, seminars, webinars, and networking with other associations. Editors Canada has four regional branches: British Columbia; Toronto; Ottawa–Gatineau; and Quebec, as well as smaller branches (called twigs) in Atlantic Canada, Barrie, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton-Halton, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph and Manitoba.
