The Editors’ Association of Canada (Editors Canada) condemns Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. We recognize Ukraine as an independent and autonomous nation led by a democratically elected government.
We denounce, in the strongest terms, Russia’s violent physical attacks on Ukraine, as well as the spread of disinformation that is being used to sow discord at a time of crisis. We support free and independent press and condemn those who would hinder it in support of tyranny.
We stand in solidarity with people in Ukraine. Our hearts go out to them and to the members of our editing community with family and friends affected by the conflict, in Ukraine and elsewhere. We join the Government of Canada and its international allies in calling on Russia to de-escalate immediately to prevent further loss of life and to support an independent Ukraine.
