1. CONFERENCE 2008: Single-day registration now available
Interested in joining fellow Conference 2008 delegates for a full day of conference sessions on either Saturday, June 7 or Sunday, June 8? The Conference Committee is pleased to announce a new single-day registration option for this year’s conference in Edmonton—ideal for editors who cannot commit to a full weekend of conference festivities.
Conference 2008: Editing in the Global Village takes place June 6–8 at the Shaw Conference Centre in the heart of the city’s vibrant downtown core. Conference details and online registration instructions are available on the conference website.
REMINDER: Register by April 30 to take advantage of the special early-bird prices!
TIP: If you’re interested in an excellent marketing investment that will allow you to reach a national audience of your peers, consider becoming a sponsor of Conference 2008: Editing in the Global Village. Benefits of sponsorship include prominent advertising in EAC’s publications, the opportunity to place your logo on the association website and, of course, promotion at the conference. For complete details of the available sponsorship levels, visit the conference website.
2. GET INVOLVED: 2008–09 elected and appointed positions (national)
Nominations are invited for the national executive council and national committee chairs. For more information about the role of the national executive council and the mandates of national committees, visit the Members’ Area of the association website.
Nominations for council or committee chair positions must be submitted to the association’s past president, Maureen Nicholson, at nominations@editors.ca. All eligible nominations received will be forwarded to the Nominating Committee.
The following positions have no declared candidates: Forum Monitor, List Monitor, Online Job Tools Committee Chair, Training and Development Committee Chair, Marketing and Public Relations Committee Chair, and Member Communication Committee Chair.
The recommended deadline for nominations is Friday, April 25, 2008. That will ensure inclusion of your candidate statement in AGM materials.
Nominations may be received at any time before votes are cast at the AGM on June 7, 2008.
3. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: 2,008 in 2008
Help EAC’s membership increase from 1,700 to 2,008 in 2008! We know that, across Canada, lurk editors who miss out on belonging to our association. Refer a new EAC member this April or May, and you’ll earn a reward of up to $25 per new recruit.
Complete membership drive details and promotional postcards can be found in the Members’ Area of the association website. Print postcards will also be available from your branch.
4. CAFEPRESS: Association shop now open
Calling all message therapists! Interested in EAC’s whimsical editing-related products that feature contest-winning slogans, conference and association logos, and more? Don’t forget to check out the association’s new CafePress shop for secure, online purchases of association-branded T-shirts, mugs, bags and more.
5. ACTIVE VOICE: Go green
As a benefit of membership, EAC members receive the association’s full-colour, quarterly newsletter, Active Voice, by mail free of charge; however, if you would like to opt out of the print edition and receive an electronic version instead, please contact the national office at info@editors.ca.
The EAC national e-news update is produced on behalf of the national executive council by the national office.
