1. PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: There’s still time to register for the 2025 exams

Are you ready to elevate your editing career?
The next round of Editors Canada Professional Certification exams will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025. This year, we’re offering the Structural Editing and Proofreading exams.
Based on requests from members, all candidates will now receive summary feedback with their exam results. This feedback is invaluable for editors looking to target which Professional Editorial Standards (2024) to focus on in their professional development.
Learn more about the exam process and benefits and check out our study materials to see if this is the right time for you to pursue professional certification.
Please note that the test preparation guides use practice tests based on the 2016 edition of Professional Editorial Standards. The test preparation guides do not go over the Standards, but how to prepare for the exams. In the meantime, all Editors Canada members and student affiliates are recommended to familiarize themselves with the current standards.
Is this the year you’ll add your name to the list of trail-blazing certified editors? Register today!

3. WEB: Using the new Online Directory of Editors
Our new Online Directory of Editors (ODE) launched on Tuesday, August 19, 2025!
The new ODE has been rebuilt on WordPress to make it more search engine friendly and to address some of the functionality problems users reported with the previous version.
If you have a profile in the ODE and haven’t already done so, please review your listing and report any issues to the national office at info@editors.ca as soon as possible. Thank those of you who have already taken the time to report ODE bugs. The national office staff goes through the feedback regularly and fixes what can be fixed in-house right away. When the bug requires developer support, the staff escalates the issue.
Here are some of the most common reports (and the steps you can take).
My profile is missing from the ODE
Be sure to set your Working Language(s) in your profile in the member portal. You must select “English” for your listing to appear in the ODE. To appear in the Répertoire électronique, you must select “French.”
If your profile is still missing, email the national office at info@editors.ca to request that your ODE profile be restored.
When I search my name in the ODE, someone else’s listing appears/my listing is showing profile info that doesn’t belong to me
The office has received a few reports of profiles that have been duplicated or unintentionally merged with that of another member because of a Findjoo error during the migration process. If you find that this has happened to your listing, please let the office know at info@editors.ca so they can ask our development team to fix it.
Nothing happens when I try to search the ODE, the drop menus are empty or nothing happens when I click the link to search by last name
When you visit a website, your browser stores information in its local cache so it doesn’t need to re-request resources from the website on future visits. This helps websites to load faster on your device; however, the downside is your browser may also be storing outdated information.
If you find the ODE search is behaving strangely, your device may be trying to access an old version of the ODE. Try the following:
- Do a hard refresh of your browser
- Clear your browser cache/cookies
- Restart your device
My ODE profile doesn’t appear in Google search results
Following the launch of the new ODE, our web developer submitted the site to Google for re-indexing. Search engine crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. The national office is keeping an eye on search engine results and will report back to our web developer so they can make any necessary changes to encourage search engines to crawl and index the directory.
The member portal is showing me limited options/I’m not able to scroll to see more boxes to select
Findjoo reports that there’s an issue specific to macOS that is hiding scroll bars in the member portal.
If you’re using a Mac and are experiencing this issue, do the following:
- In your Mac’s scroll bar behaviour settings under “Appearance” you’ll see an option to “Always show scroll bars.” Select that.
- You may need to restart your browser (or even your device) for the change to take effect.
Looking for more advice for the ODE and the member portal? You’ll find the tips above and more on the Tips for using the Editors Canada website page.

Stay tuned for more information on these consultations. We encourage members to take advantage of these opportunities and be heard.
