The certification steering committee is looking for your help
Are you a newer editor? Learning about the certification process can give you great insight into what it takes to become a certified editor. The certification steering committee is looking for a few volunteers to help shepherd the exams on Saturday, November 21, 2026. No experience is required, and training is provided. 5. BRANCH NEWS: Discover Editors Québec’s webinar program
Fall is here, and with it comes a new season of activities! Editors Québec is pleased to announce three webinars that will take place over the coming months. They will be held online on Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., ET. Please note that the following webinars will be delivered in French.
This first part of our 2026–2027 program will address some very practical aspects of professional practice: developing a client base, prospecting effectively, better protecting your activities in a digital environment and considering the growing role of artificial intelligence in language professions.

6. BOOST YOUR RESUMÉ: Get involved
Equity, diversity and inclusion committee
Are you passionate about creating a more diverse and inclusive editing community? The equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) committee is looking for new members!
Bring your ideas and unique perspectives to the table and help shape the committee’s work in the year ahead. Knowledge of or experience in EDI is especially welcome, but not required.

Got some ideas for useful resources for editors? Want to help with the development of exercises to help train the next generation of editors (and get in some extra practice yourself)? Join the publications committee today!
We’re a small team with some big ideas. Any previous experience in shepherding texts from inception to finished project is welcome, but working with us is also a great opportunity for people who want to learn the process and get some hands-on experience.

7. MEMBER NEWS: A round of applause!
Sharon McInnis (Editors British Columbia) is presenting her course, “Proofreading for Businesses and Ad Agencies,” via the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). The next five-week course begins on October 7, 2026. For more information and to register, visit EFA’s website.
Lynne Melcombe (Editors British Columbia) published her first book, No Such Thing: A True Story of “Mild” Traumatic Brain Injury and My Twenty-Year (so far) Recovery, in August 2026 with Iguana Books. A braided memoir, No Such Thing blends the story of an allegedly mild concussion and subsequent efforts to heal; research into mild traumatic brain injury, chronic pain and depression; information about how personal injury law works (or doesn’t); and the impacts of all of that on the life of an individual and her family.
Lorna Stuber (Editors Calgary) published a memoir, Going with the Floe, in August 2026. A lifelong literary devotion leads travel and humour writer Lorna Stuber to the annual Iceland Writers Retreat, where her favourite author, award-winning Canadian writer Will Ferguson, is presenting. Through her exploration of Iceland and Greenland, Lorna develops a great appreciation for the lifestyles and landscapes of the North while laughing at and rolling with the absurdities that arise when well-laid plans collide with illness, injury and unpredictable weather.
