Editors Canada will continue to freeze membership fees in 2026

Dear members and student affiliates,

I’m pleased to announce that, following a fee freeze in 2025, Editors Canada will continue to hold membership and student affiliate fees at their 2024 rates.

NEC votes to freeze membership fees

Editors Canada’s national executive council (NEC) understands that affordability is the number one concern for many people in Canada. With this in mind, we have voted to freeze membership and student affiliate fees again in 2026 to offer some financial relief for those struggling with the increased cost of living.

The following fees will remain unchanged in 2026:

  • Membership
  • Emeritus membership
  • Two-year membership
  • Student affiliates
  • Transitional fees for recent student affiliates upgrading to Editors Canada membership
  • Online Directory of Editors listing

Online Directory of Editors update

We know that many members have been disappointed with the Online Directory of Editors (ODE). In particular, Editors Canada members reported that individual profiles in the ODE aren’t showing up in Google search results. We understand your frustration since this is a paid service you use to find work.

We hired a website developer to rebuild the ODE this summer and are pleased to see that Google has begun indexing the directory and that many members are finding their own profiles in Google search results once again; however, we know this progress has been painfully slow. Google hasn’t indexed all profiles yet and we can’t say when it will. The national office continues to check Google search results daily and our website developer monitors the directory and Google’s search console, making changes as needed to encourage indexing. They report seeing small progress each day.

Although the problems with the ODE have been fixed for most people, we know that’s not the case for everyone. We’ve decided to hold the directory fee at its 2024 rate as well, to offer some relief.

Changes to the Canadian Press resources we offer

While we’ve decided to freeze membership fees, the cost of the resources and services we offer continues to increase. For example, our subscription to the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) has more than doubled this year.

We heard from members that being able to access CMOS through the Editors Canada website is a resource you don’t want to lose. To keep this service, while still responsibly managing the association’s cash flow, we’ve made the difficult decision not to renew our subscription to The Canadian Press Stylebook and Caps and Spelling. Access to these services through the Editors Canada website will end on January 9, 2026.

The Canadian Press’s Guide de rédaction en ligne will continue to be included with Editors Canada membership.
