Toronto, August 12, 2026—The Editors’ Association of Canada (Editors Canada) is pleased to announce that 8 editors have earned a total of 10 new professional certifications. This year, Editors Canada recognizes two new Certified Structural Editors and eight new Certified Proofreaders.

Since the launch of its landmark professional certification program, Editors Canada has awarded more than 300 professional certifications to editors across Canada and beyond.

The gold standard of editing
Editors Canada created its professional certification program to promote and maintain professional standards of excellence, to help editors develop professionally, and to enhance the status of editing as a profession in Canada.
Editors Canada Professional Certification identifies editors who are at the top of their game. Being certified is recognition of an editor’s high level of professional knowledge and skill.
As recognition of professional certification continues to grow, the benefits increase for corporations, governments, not-for-profit organizations, educational organizations, publishing companies and individuals seeking professional editors with superior levels of knowledge, experience and skills.
Registration now open for 2026 exams
Registration is now open for Editors Canada’s 2026 professional certification exams in Copy Editing and Stylistic Editing. Editors who are ready to demonstrate their expertise and earn a nationally recognized credential are encouraged to register. Editors Canada began in 1979 as the Freelance Editors’ Association of Canada to promote and maintain high standards of editing. In 1994, the word “Freelance” was dropped to reflect the association’s expanding focus to serve both freelance and in-house editors. As Canada’s only national editorial association, it is the hub for members and affiliates, both salaried and freelance, who work in the corporate, technical, government, not-for-profit and publishing sectors. The association’s professional development programs and services include professional certification, conferences, seminars, webinars, and networking with other associations. Editors Canada has four regional branches: British Columbia; Toronto; Ottawa–Gatineau; and Quebec, as well as smaller branches (called twigs) in Atlantic Canada, Barrie, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton-Halton, Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph and Manitoba.
