2. MEMBER SERVICES: Virtual socials

The member services committee is happy to announce the return of regularly scheduled virtual socials. Where are these socials? Currently, we’re using the Editors Canada Discord server for its games, music and interactivity options. It was lovely to see those of you who could attend the last social in April, and we look forward to seeing so many more of you at the next one! We’re excited to bring you programming from The Editors’ Vine and La Vigne des réviseurs this year. If you’re not sure where to find these events, please check the national events calendar on the association website. You’ll find all the information you need there!

Will this be the year you put your skills to the test and level up your career?

The 2026 Editors Canada Professional Certification exams are fast approaching. In November 2026, we will be offering the Stylistic Editing and Copy Editing exams.

Why take the exam?

Being certified by Editors Canada is the recognition of an editor’s high level of professional knowledge and skill. In today’s competitive job market, certification demonstrates your expertise—and gives you a marketing advantage.

Start preparing today

Registration may not open until the summer, but you can start practising for the Stylistic Editing exam, Copy Editing exam or both. Check out our resources to get started.

You don’t have to do it alone

While the exams must be completed independently, a study group can help you uncover gaps in your knowledge and skills. Reach out on our social media platforms (Google Groups, Facebook, Discord) to form study groups. Keep an eye on branch or twig activities as some may be organizing exam study sessions.

More details to come

As we get closer to the registration date, expect more details. The latest updates can be found on the Editors Canada Professional Certification page.

5. MEMBER RESOURCES: Temporary login access for the Oxford English Dictionary

Please note that the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) is experiencing technical issues that are affecting Editors Canada member access through our website’s EZproxy connection.

To ensure access during this period, our national office has arranged temporary login credentials for the OED website for Editors Canada members and student affiliates. These credentials will remain active until Oxford has resolved the connection issues. Please visit the OED web page in the member resources section of our website for the temporary OED username and password.

We apologize for any inconvenience this disruption has caused and appreciate your patience. The Editors Canada national office will continue to follow up with Oxford.

6. CAREER BUILDER: Your feedback helps shape the Hub

Have you visited the Career Development Hub? It offers all Editors Canada members a streamlined way to access webinars, The Editors’ Weekly posts and essential career resources.

We are committed to making this a premier resource for our community. If you haven’t had a chance to look around, visit career.editors.ca now. As we continue to refine the space, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to submit your feedback through the site to help us make the Hub even better!

Please note that career.editors.ca and editors.ca are separate websites. To access the members-only content on the Hub, you will need to either log out of editors.ca first or use a separate browser.

7. MEMBER NEWS: A round of applause!

Editors Toronto member Ruth E. Thaler-Carter made a very well-received presentation about “Flying Solo: Launching a Freelance Editing Business” at the 2026 ACES (The Society for Editing) Conference in Atlanta on April 24, 2026. She also did reasonably well in the conference trivia game.

Editors Canada Member News is where we share information about members and affiliates who win awards, publish books and make their mark in other important ways.

Do you have an achievement you’d like to share? Are you excited about a new project or opportunity that has come your way? Let us tell the world all about it! Please send your stories to the member news coordinator.

8. NEC: Notes from your national executive council

The national executive council (NEC) met on Sunday, April 26, to discuss some of these springtime activities:

We welcomed Editors Québec member and longtime volunteer Marie-Christine Payette to discuss translation and services for our French members.

The annual audit is underway. As every year, the auditor’s report will be included as part of the annual report.

We discussed the results of member feedback on the strategic plan and came to the decision to suspend work on the current draft plan. We will update members on the next steps as they are confirmed.

Volunteer appreciation was discussed. The NEC is working on strategies to recruit and retain volunteers and better show appreciation for the hard work of the many dedicated volunteers who help keep the association running. If any members have ideas for volunteer appreciation or issues they wish to highlight, I would encourage you to reach out to president@editors.ca.

The NEC will meet again on Sunday, May 31. A summary of that meeting will be included in the June e-news update.

The next NEC meeting is scheduled for Sunday, June 14.

Kaitlin Littlechild
President
